Happy Birthday Singapore

9th August 2008 is National Day.

Why is everyone harping on the Olympics when it isn't even held here? Granted that it is held only once every four years. But something tells me that we should celebrate our nation's independence and how far it has come since this date 43 years ago.

You don't have to agree with certain public policy to love your country. You don't have to feel that every ERP gantry is justified. You don't have to enjoy taking your IPPT every year if you're a male. You don't have to agree that public transport is great.

Lets face it, no country is perfect; no Government is perfect. They are all human beings and they make mistakes too. We can't deny how fortunate we are to be living here. You don't have to look too far geographically to realise that. So for me, there is simply so much to LOVE about this country.

Why?

Because I can walk on the streets at 3am in the morning and the chances of being mugged are remote.

Because I can have whatever cuisine I crave for anywhere, everywhere.

Because my retirement is taken care of.

Because I will have a roof over my head at all times.

Because we never have to fear nature's fury.

Because I can get around with relative ease (despite a transportation system that can be improved).

Because I can have friends of diverse ethnic groups.

Because this list can go on and on!

Three cheers for Singapore!

Number 200!

Post number 200! Thank you all my regular readers and fans. Without you people I really don't see much point in keeping this blog and because of YOU, I still make an effort to update (really trying) on a regular basis, be it my usual muses or more car care topics.

This week there isn't any car care topic, so it shall be muses then. Some really random stuff...

I realised how blessed I am. You see, I have a decent job that I quite enjoy, although I don't earn a lot but hey, being fresh out of Uni I'm not complaining. I have a loving and warm family, who are ever supportive and always there for me. I have great buddies and pals (yeah you know who you are!) that I know I can always depend on. I have a lovely girlfriend who is everything I could ask for and her family treats me extremely well too. I can practically buy anything I desire (not everything, but close enough). I love good food and often I can fulfil my cravings (that reminds me of the very unhealthy combo of Laksa and Orh Chye Tau Kueh for dinner). This list can go on.

Its easy to take all these for granted, but time and again, I remind myself not to and I'm glad to say that I don't. :)

Sometimes, things in life don't always turn out the way you want them to. It is important to look at the positives and start living life to the fullest instead of sitting down there saying, "Life Sucks."

Because it doesn't. Cheers!
