Slow down....

I expected things to be in slow motion upon completion of my exams but it has been somewhat of a frenzy, although I feel that I've been doing nothing but slacking all these while. I want to go on a holiday, but don't really have a specific destination and more importantly, don't have a job. Before I know, the new semester will start pretty soon. I know because it is the end of May already...

Time... Please slow down, cos there are lots I want to do.....

26 May 2006

Its gonna be hell of a party tonight.

What do I love about these brathers? Well, we can go out and have fun, hang out, eat good food, talk and laugh and talk and laugh non-stop. Sure, sometimes we can do silly things that seem childish and we can really be rowdy at times, things like crashing lectures, disturbing people.. But hey, boys will always be boys isn't it?

But we boys are often serious when we need to be. We never fool around with our future, we are very organised in the way we think, and how we go about doing things. We are a bunch of committed, pragmatic people who work hard and play hard.

Three cheers to our bratherhood!

Memories..

I have been so bored that I was digging up old photo albums and wiping the dust of the covers. I couldn't believe what I found and some pictures made me laugh, some pictures made me emotional. Haha.. Well, here is a selection of my personal favourites, enjoy!

Daddy when he was young. Isn't he handsome? Look at that Beatles hairstyle!

Mummy when she was young, not in uniform but still looking pretty!

On their honeymoon in Copenhagen. Man.. I'm so envious!

A rainbow they saw and captured on film in Auckland...

Hey!! That's me in the boot! Our first and only trip to England..

That's the first time I'm seeing snow, in Christchurch, NZ..

A family shot taken in Los Angeles.. This is one picture I like very much..

Our first visit to the cockpit with a very friendly Captain..

Finally, this rainbow I caught at the Great Ocean Road in May 1998!

That's all for now... More to come when I find them!

Porsche 911 (997) GT3

Warning! Entry on cars. Read it at your own peril.

Well, just by reading it in my magazine makes me kinda wanna drool. I've never been a fan of the 911 from the 993-996 series, thinking that they have lost their charm somehow. Ever since the 997 series was introduced, I have been lusting over it, not unlike how men lust over Lin Chi-Ling.

Well, as a testament of how important power to weight ratio is to a car, you just have to look at the latest incarnation of the GT3. A pared down body which weighs in at 1395kg (only 40kg more than the compact Golf GTI), a naturally aspirated flat-six 3.6litre engine with a very high compression ration of 12.0:1, it churns out a maximum of 415bhp at a high 7600rpm and maximum torque of 405Nm at 5500rpm. Combine that with race tuned suspension, a full roll cage and lightweight Recaro buckets you have the ultimate track day machine. Heck, its only 0.4secs shy from 0-100km/h compared to the latest 911 Turbo, the ultimate 911, thanks to the power to weight ratio of 297.4bhp per tonne. Damn, that is almost TWICE as much as the GTI at 147.6bhp per tonne!

Being rear-wheel drive does not necessarily translates to an extremely frisky handling car, as typified by the Carrera S. It has phenomenal grip even in the wet. This still remains as an engineering feat, as the heaviest part of the car (the engine) is in the rear and the Porsche engineers have made it so well balanced and planted. Kudos to them! For the GT3, there are specially developed semi-race compound Michelins and electronic driver aids and damper settings, that would keep you out of trouble should you go sideways too much!

This is every track junkie's dream! And now, its even easier to live with as an everyday mode of transport thanks to the active suspension settings that allow you to set it to comfort mode. The unmistakable wail of the flat-six engine makes a compelling case as well and it will never look out of place amongst the F430s and Gallardos.

Ah, I'm smelling petrol and burning rubber again. Wake up man, wake up!!!

Saturday night fever..

It has been a great Saturday evening. Always good to catch up with the Brathers. Lotsa talking, full of laughter, plenty of rubbish, reminiscing the days we had in camp, looking at the photos and videos from Brather Ando4's iPod video. What great fun! Some things never change!

Brather Justin.. That ghostly thing on the left happens to be Brather Andy's finger..

Brather Andy.. As you can see, we had Starbucks before dinner...

Then Brather Ando4 joined us for dinner.. and because of him.....

We had Starbucks AGAIN, after dinner!! Ooh Laa Laaaaaa.....

Playing with this toy Brather Andy bought.. Don't know what is it called..

Haha.. I can already forsee plenty of fun to be had at the stag party next week. Lets play, HOOOOOO~!

Communication

One common problem in relationships these days is that there is no element of communication between the couple. Now wait a second here, I'm no guru when it comes to relationships. I'm just determined to work on it.

Yes, couples don't communicate. You see, we should not be pointing fingers here because it takes two hands to clap. Hence both parties have a part to play. What is communication? Why is it so important? Well it IS important because it is the only way you can get to know each other, what is happening in each other's lives. We are humans, we need communication to survive. Even animals do, in one way or another.

Communication can come in any form, be it face-to-face, msn, sms.. Whatever! The most important thing is to CONVERSE with each other. With things like Friendster or blogs, you may think that you know what's going on in the life of Mr A. No you don't! You have to talk... talk... talk....

For the guys, a simple question like "How was your day?" would suffice! Go ahead, go on and ask your lady, "How was YOUR day?". Because to a lady, a simple question like that can result in a 30 minute long conversation! Yes and please try to look at least interested when she's talking about that b!tch in the office who stole her stapler, even though you are hearing about her for the umpteenth time.

For ladies, how do you deal with the men? Easy! Ask him about the FA Cup final, ask him about the Champions League Final, ask him about the World Cup or even any form of sports or whatever he may be interested in. Even though you may not understand what he is trying to say, just let the bloke talk about it. At least it keeps him happy, doesn't it? You don't understand? Just laugh along and both parties will be happy.

Now what are you waiting for? Go on and call/sms/whatever your other half and COMMUNICATE!

Guys = Jerks?

Today let us talk about this adage that "all guys are jerks". Before you start thinking that I'm about to degrade my own kind by talking about this topic, I'm not. All are equal, which is where I stand now.

So, are guys jerks? From a rational viewpoint, YES, guys are jerks. They are selfish, proud, egoistic and horny bastards. Its not a theory, its a fact. Too bad, but this is how guys are programmed to be. Its an inbuilt feature that comes with every guy as a package, be it a normal or inferior good. Seriously, however nice a guy may seem, he is bound to succumb to these 'bugs'. Any good mobile phone on the market today is also prone to bugs. This is simply because of the fact that nothing is perfect. Not convinced? Go look at your fingers, and tell me if any of them are of the same length. If they are, please call me so that I can refer you to the media.

However, it has become somewhat of a generalisation in recent times, and why guys are jerks is mainly due to a self-fulfilling prophecy. If everyone thinks that guys are jerks, then guys will think that it is OK to fool around, it is totally fine to have ONSs, it is perfectly normal to have more than one girlfriend at a time. WHY? Because of how everyone views them. Since every guy is a jerk, I can do these things because everyone else is doing it, and I don't see what's wrong.

Let's face it, there is not much of morality today. There is only a thin line and more often than not people would ignore this line, like how MRT passengers disregard the painted yellow lines and overcrowd the door, preventing the egress of others. What is right and what is wrong? It has become a very subjective issue instead of being a clear cut one.

Ladies are often talking about this issue. They are made of sugar and spice and everything nice, so usually its the guy who is at fault. Well yes, most of the guys are. But because of generalisation, ALL guys become jerks. In any given situation, it always takes two hands to clap. Not that I'm criticising ladies, because ladies are the most beautiful beings created for us men to love and dote on. I'm not being sarcastic, its true. I'm just saying that its not a one way thing. It works both ways.

Ladies have to take a more rational view on this. Let's just draw up an example on women rights activists. Yes, there were problems of sexual discrimination with benefits swinging towards the male factor, and that the males are the dominatory figure but these are all but a thing of the past. By constantly fighting for women's rights here and there, aren't these people creating the problem they wanted to eradicate in the first place? They are merely swinging the balance of discrimination into their favour and putting the blame onto the males again. Yes you want to talk about gender equality, but what equality is there when you start to say, oh ladies should be entitled to this, ah ladies should not do that.

So instead of looking for all the faults in the guy and trying to unearth the jerk in him, why don't you ladies try to look at his good points and also appreciate the things he has done for you? Its inevitatble that there is a jerk in every guy but there is an option not to release it, well in some cases I reckon.

Guys on the other hand have to open their eyes and wake up their ideas. Pride and ego takes no one nowhere. Its a simple matter of having your priorities set. Do you love your pride more or what? For the guys who still want to release the jerk in you when the ladies are already trying their best to accept you, I think you ought to be shot.

Like how some guys start to take their girlfriends for granted once they have achieved their goals in the courtship process? Its another making of a jerk isn't it? You put in so much time, effort and money to woo the girl of your dreams and when you get her you go YEEHAA! And start to treat her coldly. Shouldn't you be even sweeter to her? Considering all that you have gone through to make her yours? You should cherish her even more! What are the chances of guys sustaining their sweet acts after getting into a relationship? The statistics prove that it will only be for no more than a year.

So now, we have proven that guys are jerks. But ladies also have a part to play in this. It is down to how we are programmed differently. So rather than to start pointing fingers on what is right or wrong and who is to be blamed, I suggest that the effort should be put into appreciating the presence of each other and to cherish each other more, putting our differences aside.

Nobody said it would be easy, but it's not too hard either. All we have to do is TRY.

Self apathy

Self apathy is often the ingredient towards destruction of self belief and confidence, and a pathway to killing one's self worth.

EXAMS

Ya that's why I haven't been blogging much. Just watch this space, cos I'll be back with a shout after my papers.

Oh ya.. snapped this pic of the sky after I came back from my run that day. The pic really don't do the real scene any justice but it was really an orange mist.
